“Sometimes the road less traveled is less traveled for a reason” (Jerry Seinfeld). I was visiting my brother in Pennsylvania a couple of years ago, relying heavily on my GPS to guide me around. From his house, I started out on a trip to my hometown in western New York State, south of Buffalo. There are few if any major routes through the Allegany Mountains to my destination. Shortly after leaving his house, my GPS said to make a left turn on what appeared to be a gravel road. I’m always ready for a new adventure and thought about the road less traveled as I made the turn. I drove about a mile into the hilly back woods as the road became ruddy and narrow. There wouldn’t be room for another vehicle to pass by, but there was little chance of that on this lesser traveled road. Another couple of miles in and I came upon a huge oak tree laying across the road. It appeared to have been dead and laying there for an extended period of time. Definitely a road less traveled. Since I was on the side of this mountain on this narrow road, there was no way to turn around. So I tested my reverse driving skills for about three miles, all while my GPS kept repeating “make a u-turn”. I was already in reverse, so I’m not sure what the GPS was telling me to do. Anyway, bottom line, Jerry was right. 11/5/23
