Writer’s Rant for 1/9/24
I began work on my second novel several months ago. The (tentative) title is POTENTIAL. Potential is defined as: having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future. And that’s where my story begins. It’s mostly a light-hearted look at a man who needs affirmation, primarily from his wife. He asks her, point blank, “why did you marry me?”, hoping for reassurance of her love, admiration and desire for him still, even after ten years of marriage. Her response of “I thought you had potential” is unexpected and puts him in defensive mode. “I still have potential” he counters with confidence, with the sudden realization of the irony in his words. There is much more to be learned on this journey to reaching his full potential, as he seeks to understand and flourish in various roles as husband and father, self-aggrandizing employee, and the sudden unexpected guardianship of a troubled nephew. I have stalled the past month to add to this story, but it’s a new year and I still see a lot of potential in it. I could, potentially, complete it sometime this year. 1/9/24
