Writer’s Rant

“Fools Rush In…..

….. where angels fear to tread” .

What better time to explore this quotation by Alexander Pope than during this election season. Things haven’t changed much since 1709 when he first wrote it in a poem. I would print the entire poem here, but it’s written in some fancy language that I can’t begin to understand, so you’ll have to google it and read it on your own time. I can tell you that it’s an essay on criticism and refers to a person who does not plan ahead and think matters through, who becomes involved in risky or unfavorable situations which prudent people avoid. There has been more than a tolerable amount of criticism flung by both parties in this election season. My only hope is that I have been diligent enough to discern and make rational choices that will lead to the betterment of myself as well as all Americans. I hope that is true for others as well; time will tell. All I know for sure is that there is no place for hate in our decision-making for political candidates or in everyday life. “Hate” is destructive and blinds us from rational thought. It’s where fools rush in and angels fear to tread.
