My college roommate and I were kidnapped one night. It was a rite of passage into the fraternity. On this particular night, we were grabbed from our dorm room, blindfolded and loaded into a vehicle. No words were spoken and we did not know our captors. We drove for what seemed like hours before being dropped off about 4 AM in the middle of nowhere. Before leaving us, we were bombarded with crushed eggs and shaving cream on our heads and down our pants. The sight and smell of us would scare away the foulest of creatures, as we stood there on this barren road, surrounded by woods and the sound of nature all around. We began walking. We didn’t know where we were or what direction we were heading. Finally a lone car came our way and we flagged it down as the headlights approached. Amazingly, it stopped. Inside was a young lady, dressed in a nursing uniform, on her way to work. Our story was hard not to believe and she took pity on us, telling us that we were near Peekskill NY, 60 miles from where we had been kidnapped. She gave us a ride, in spite of our appearance and smell, to a place where we were able to contact a friend with a car to come pick us up. I would have said “back to civilization” but we weren’t feeling very civil at the time. I didn’t know there were other uses for eggs and shaving cream and I have a new appreciation for them. Just not together. 11/16
