Writer’s Rant for 3/11/24
Studies (from Harvard U) show that people who live with a purpose, live longer. In Rick Warren’s “The Purpose Driven Life” he so aptly states: “Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.” Growing up, I thought about the few years I had lived and the many years I had ahead of me. Now that I have aged, it’s a bit disconcerting that I have fewer years ahead of me and most have already passed me by. . It makes me wonder, what, if anything, have I accomplished during those years? I look at it from two perspectives: The tangible and the intangible. What are my tangible contributions or accomplishments? Does my failure to contribute and accomplish everything I had hoped during my lifetime diminish the importance of any success I may have had? The second perspective is more difficult. Any intangible contributions I have made aren’t measured so easily. They are dependent upon others and the impact I may have had upon them. And each may have been affected differently. So the question remains unanswered. I suppose that if I just had more time, I could make more money. But I probably won’t. It’s just not important. Fortunately I have my priorities straight now and although it took me years to find my purpose, it turns out I was on that path all along. It happened naturally. I have evolved. And Rick Warren was right. Every day is a gift and my time here is limited.
