So, Christmas is the “hap hap happiest time of the year”? Ha! I don’t think so. It takes about 30 days to get over the “Joy of Christmas”. Then you get the bill in the mail. Sure, it’s a happy time for kids. But for adults? You may be happy to see the joy on your kids’ faces Christmas morning, but does that make up for the stress and anxiety this season brings? And it all starts earlier and earlier each year. There were Christmas decorations in the stores at Halloween! They used to wait until at least Thanksgiving. Now they give us an extra month to “prepare”. Call me Scrooge, but I don’t need another month to spend obscene amounts of money for mostly unneeded stuff just to see happy faces for 30 minutes on Christmas morning. All the while, what I’m thinking about is how many payments it will take to pay off my credit card bill! It’s gotten out of hand. Back in the day, kids were excited to get that one desired gift from Santa. It was affordable. But parents have ruined it. Every year it takes more and more to make our kids “happy”. It’s not the kids fault. It’s the parents. So now that I have made you face reality, cheer up. Here are some famous quotes about this “hap hap happiest time of the year”, mostly from people I have never heard of:
Andy Borowitz- “Christmas is a baby shower that went totally overboard.”
Kin Hubbard- “Nothing’s as mean as giving a little child something useful for Christmas.”
Bob Phillips- “There are three stages of man: he believes in Santa Claus; he does not believe in Santa Claus; he is Santa Claus.”
Victor Borge “Santa Claus had the right idea. Visit people only once a year.”
Author Unknown- “Christmas is a race to see which gives out first—your money or your feet.”
Melanie White- “Sending Christmas cards is a good way to let your friends and family know that you think they’re worth the price of a stamp.”
Matt Groening- “Aren’t we forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. You know, the birth of Santa?”
Merry Christmas and Happy birthday Santa! You too, Jesus. ” Oy vay…”
