Writer’s Rant for 12/20

“The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist fears this is true.” (James Branch Cabell). Is your glass half full or half empty? Are you an optimist or a pessimist? I believe in the perfection of creation and that a world like ours did not evolve purely by accident. If you’re a pessimist, you view things differently as you look at the condition of our world today: wars, disease, violence, political discord, racism and the rest of the maladies, whatever they may be, and it will never get better. I can understand your pessimism. However, consider that none of those things were present at the time of our perfect creation. They only came about as we humans messed things up. The state of the world today is a result of our own imperfection. Hence, your pessimism. You are afraid it’s all true; this is as good as it gets. Regardless of how we view the world and how bad it gets, I will remain the “eternal optimist” because I know that there is an eternity that lies beyond this world. We live in an imperfect world. And that’s a good thing. If it were perfect, what would we have to look forward to? 12/20/23
