Writer’s Rant for 11/23

Happy Thanksgiving- Things you may not know about turkeys:

Female turkeys don’t gobble; they purr.

Turkeys were originally bred for their feathers, not meat.

Male (Toms) and Female (Hens) have different shaped poop.

Turkeys have been around for about 10 million years

Turkeys nearly went extinct twice: 10,000 years ago (due to climate change) and in 1930 as a result of over-hunting. There were no turkeys left in Connecticut in 1813 or Vermont in 1842.

Turkeys are native to North America and can be found in 38 states and Canada.

Turkeys have been known to attack humans. The Massachusetts government can provide you with information on how to ward off a turkey attack.

Grocery store turkeys can’t fly. They have been bred for “unnaturally large breasts.”

Wild turkeys can fly up to 55 miles per hour! (If I were a turkey, I would want to be a wild one.) They can also run up to 12 miles per hour.

We will consume 50 million turkeys on Thanksgiving. Most people prefer the ones with “unnaturally large breasts”.
