“Sarcasm is the ability to insult idiots without them realizing it.” I am currently learning about empathy and focusing on my listening skills. Without getting into specifics, I have to practice being non-judgmental and withholding advice. The course book talks a lot about behaviors, such as passive, aggressive, and a combination of the two. It professes that sarcasm is a form of aggressive behavior. While I agree that it can be aggressive, it doesn’t have to be. Take this sarcastic retort for example: “I’m sorry I hurt your feelings when I called you stupid. I thought you already knew.” That’s not aggressive. It started with “I’m sorry”. That’s empathy.
