“I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.” (Noel Coward). This bit of sarcasm reminds me of the saying: “why don’t you take a long walk off a short pier?” I was curious as to the origin of this, so naturally, I googled it. Google didn’t quite answer my question.

There response was this: Etymology. From the fact that if one walks longer than the walkway, one will find oneself falling into the body of water. Thank you google!
