I have mixed feelings about poetry. I am not a fan unless its set to music. Then I have an appreciation. I’ve figured out that when set to music, I get a much better sense of the meaning of the poem. Most great poems however are never set to music (except for the Psalms), so I’m basically listening to rhymes. Not all rhymes are poetry, and not all poetry, rhymes. But I’m just not cerebral enough to understand good poetry. Sometimes I just need things spelled out. I think this affects my writing too. I may tend to over-simplify and be too wordy, kind of like Paul in the new testament who tries to make a point by repeating it over and over, like the chorus that’s repeated in music. And this blog is a perfect example of being too wordy (and trying to spell it all out). I think I need to stop writing now but…..
